Performing Arts Glass Plate Negatives from the Harry Ransom CenterThe Performing Arts glass plate negatives collection, ca. 1890–ca. 1920 (bulk 1900–1910), consists of 95 photographic glass plate negatives. Forty-six images are from twenty theater productions in New York and thirty-four images are from unidentified productions. The photographs show actors in costume, often on a stage set, depicting the action for a particular play. Among the identified productions are images from plays such as Ben-Hur, The Count of Monte Cristo, Human Hearts, The Pit, The Rose of the Rancho, Salome (1909), The Sign of the Cross, Uncle Tom's Cabin and Zaza. Images of actors include Mrs. Leslie Carter, Rose Melville, Olga Nethersole, E. H. Sothern, and David Warfield. Eight images show theater building exteriors and seven images are of other subjects, generally theater equipment and portraits of people who may be in costume, but do not appear to be in a specific scene from a play.
