Instructions for Using Microfiche Reader/Printer

Finding Newspaper Articles

Most SU students are accustomed to using the online databases to find their articles. For this assignment you will use print newspapers, microfiche and historical databases which contain camera-copy PDFs of articles.

Simply browsing older magazines or newspapers can be very helpful in getting a feel for a time period.  If you are having problems finding what you need, the librarians will be happy to assist you.

To help you, here is a list of some of the newspapers available at SU that may help you with this project:

NEWSPAPERS AT THE LIBRARY
Title Date Range Format
Baltimore Sun 1989-2006 Microfilm
Baltimore Sun (Historical) 1837-1988 Databases
Christian Science Monitor 1989-2004 Microfiche
New York Times incomplete Microfilm and Microfiche
NYTimes.com 1851-2009 Databases
Wall Street Journal 1986-2005 Microfiche
Washington Post 1989-2005 Microfiche

In addition, we have the last three months of the Baltimore Sun, USA Today and The New York Times in print.

The print version of the Wall Street Journal for the previous month is available in the School of Business Library.

Using the Copier

Choose a paper size to match the portion of the page you wish to copy.

Other Tips

If you have difficulty identifying the complete citation from the microfiche, or want to pinpoint the exact date an article appears in a publication, look up the citation in a newspaper database. At the very top of the landing page, you can select which newspapers to search.
