MGT 323: Social Entrepreneurship: Social Entrepreneurship

Finding Good Online Sources

When researching online, you can focus your search in a few ways.

Simplify search terms:  just use the essential terms, keywords or concepts in your searching.  Databases and web browsers regularly discard what they see as irrelevant words which may affect your search results.

Phrase Searching: Use quotation marks to enclose a phrase like "social entrepreneurship."

Boolean Operators:  This is a type of logic that databases and search engines use to combine search terms.  AND is the default for most search engines, but putting the AND in your search will force the database to divide terms up the way you prefer.  Example:  social entrepreneurship AND funding is a different search than social entrepreneurship funding.

Domain Searching:  Looking specifically for organizations, educational institutions or government sources of information can eliminate commercial sites that are trying to sell products or services.  In web browsers site: org (or edu or gov).
