Library Research Award 2021 winner
We are delighted to announce Muskan Malhotra '21 as the winner of this year's Library Research Award. Muskan's project, entitled "Issues Among the Youth Aging Out of Foster Care," was a research paper written for Dr. John Rosicky’s Human Services & Social Policy course. We chose her as the winner because of the way she combined traditional research sources, including journal articles, websites, government publications, with hands-on field research. She interviewed two staff members, spoke directly with one of the young people who had personal experience with the foster system, and made a video to share that person’s story. She said that hearing about this person’s experience reinforced the things she had read in the more formal sources, which we thought was a very valuable lesson about the research process.
Thank you to all the faculty who encouraged their students to apply for the award. In addition, we'd like to thank Don Osborn, Discovery & Public Services Librarian, and Laurel Moody, Assistant Professor of Nursing, for serving on this year's LibRA committee.
Student projects from this semester will be eligible for the next Library Research Award, so as you're grading, consider encouraging your students to save and submit their work in 2022!
