Scholarly communication is a continuing conversation between information creators and consumers. Insights are discussed over time and evolve through debate, critique and refinement.  Differing perspectives and ideas can be investigated with respectful skepticism.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand that scholarship is an ongoing conversation in which meaning is created and debated by information creators and consumers over time
  • Describe the contribution of information sources and varying perspectives to a disciplinary conversation
  • Engage with information in ways that demonstrate critical thinking and new understanding
  • Recognize that participation in a scholarly conversation is impacted by power and authority structures, prioritizing certain voices and perspectives
