Healthcare Management Research

Welcome to the SU Library's Health Care Management Reseach Guide! This Guide will bring together scholarly resources available to students in the HCM program.

Getting Started

Research in Healthcare Management draws from many disciplines: business, health care, medicine, epidemiology, law  and the social sciences. OneSearch searches many of the library's databases (books, articles, videos) with a single search, and may be a good starting point in your pursuit of academic and scholarly information.

Health Affairs

Health Affairs is the seminal journal in the HCM field and covers health, healthcare and health policy. You can search and browse Health Affairs directly or use the OneSearch database to find articles (put Health Affairs in the search box and select journal title from the pulldown).

Steps to Finding Information

This Guide will  lead you through the research process and highlight sources for your HCM papers and projects. If you would like a refresher on doing online research, writing literature reviews, or citing in APA format we have additional guides you may find helpful.

Writing a Literature Review will take you through the steps of finding and integrating research literature to produce a literature review.

Search Tips

If you are using the term  "healthcare" be sure to search "health care" as well since it appears both ways in the literature.

If you want to link two terms together like "project management," put them in quotes.

If you want to retreive all the variations of a term, ie, management, manager, manage, etc., put a * symbol at the end of a word to retreive all possible endings. Ex: manag*

Think of synonyms and related terms. You can string them together in your search by using OR (must be in caps)

Ex: obesity OR overweight
